Excellent Plumbing Services in Tampa, Florida has something most contractors would kill for: a 4.9-star rating across 201 reviews. That is genuinely hard to earn in this trade. It tells me these folks show up, do the work right, and take care of their customers.
But this review isn’t about their plumbing work. It’s about their online marketing — and honestly, that’s where the trouble is. Because while the reputation says world-class, the website underneath it is leaking jobs in at least six different places. Let’s walk through exactly what we found, why each issue costs real money, and what it should make you check on your own site today.
| Finding | What the audit found | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| No paid-ads tracking detected at all | No Google Ads conversion tag, no Meta pixel in the page source. | Either no paid acquisition, or ads running blind with no conversion measurement. |
| No analytics detected | No GA4/Google Tag Manager script found in the page source. | No way to know which marketing produces leads and which burns money. |
| Missing meta description | No <meta name=description> tag on the homepage. | Google writes its own snippet — usually worse at turning searches into clicks. |
| No Facebook/Meta pixel detected | No fbq(‘init’) / connect.facebook.net script found in the page source. | Without a pixel, there’s no way to retarget people who already visited the site — one of the cheapest ad channels available goes unused. |
| No video content on the homepage | No YouTube/Vimeo/Wistia embed found in the page source. | Video builds trust fastest and keeps visitors on the page longer — a homepage with zero video is a missed, low-cost opportunity. |
| Insecure content on a secure page (1 resources) | 1 asset(s) loaded over http:// on an https:// page | Mixed content triggers browser security warnings and can silently block images or scripts from loading at all. |
| No service+city pages | No internal links matching a service-in-city URL pattern | People search “emergency plumber in <city>”, not “Excellent Plumbing Services”. With one generic services page there’s nothing for Google to rank against those searches, and paid clicks land somewhere too generic to convert. |
How People Actually Hire a Plumber
Start with how people actually hire a plumber. Someone searching ’emergency plumber in Tampa’ is standing in front of a burst pipe, phone in hand. Water on the floor. Blood pressure up. They are not casually browsing — they are hiring the first company that shows up, looks legitimate, and answers.
That moment is the whole game in this trade. Your website has one job: be there for that exact search, then convince that person within seconds that you’re the one to call. Every problem below either keeps Excellent Plumbing out of that moment, or wastes it once it arrives.
Problem #1: No Service and City Pages
Their site has no service-and-city pages at all. Just one generic services page. That’s the entire structure.
Here’s why that hurts so much. Google ranks pages, not businesses. If you want to appear when someone searches ’emergency plumber Tampa’ or ‘water heater repair Tampa,’ you need a page built for that exact search — the specific service, the specific city, and the proof you can do the job. One generic page gives Google nothing to rank for those searches. You are invisible at the exact moment a homeowner’s pipe bursts.
And it compounds if you’re paying for clicks. A paid click lands somewhere too generic to book the job. The homeowner asked a specific question; the page gives a vague answer; they hit the back button and call the next company on the list. You still pay for that click. Building out service and city pages is week-one work for any competent home service marketing agency, and here it’s missing entirely.
Problem #2: Zero Analytics on the Site
Next we looked for basic measurement, and it isn’t there. No Google Analytics. No Google Tag Manager. Nothing at all.
Here’s why that’s a five-alarm fire. With no analytics on the site, nobody can tell which marketing produced a call and which quietly burned money. So if the phone rings, great — but nobody knows why it rang. And if it doesn’t ring, nobody knows why either. Every budget decision becomes a guess, and every guess is expensive.
This is also the fix that makes every other fix possible. You can’t scale what you can’t measure, and you can’t catch leaks you can’t see.
Problem #3: Ads Flying Blind
Same story on the advertising side. We found no Google Ads conversion tag and no Meta pixel anywhere on the site.
If they’re running Google Ads without a conversion tag, those ads are flying blind. There’s no way to connect spend to actual booked calls, which means there’s no way to know whether the account is printing money or setting it on fire. Combined with the missing analytics, the result is the same: marketing that can’t be judged, only paid for.
The missing Meta pixel stings even if they never touch Facebook. With no pixel installed, there’s no way to bring back people who already visited the site — and showing ads to people who already checked you out is usually one of the cheapest ad channels there is. Those warm visitors are the easiest jobs to close. Right now, they leave the site and they’re gone forever.
Problem #4: The ‘Small’ Stuff That’s Quietly Expensive
A missing meta description
The homepage is missing its meta description — the little summary Google shows under your listing in the search results. When you don’t write it, Google writes its own. And Google’s version is almost always worse at turning a search into a click. This is your first impression on a homeowner in a panic. Leaving it to chance costs calls you’ll never know you lost.
An insecure resource on a secure page
We also caught one resource loading over an insecure connection on an otherwise secure page. That mixed-content issue can trigger browser security warnings in front of potential customers — not a great look for a company asking to be let into their home. Worse, it can silently stop images or scripts from loading at all. Parts of the site may simply not appear for some visitors, and nobody would ever know why.
No video anywhere
There’s no video anywhere on the homepage. If this were my account, a 60-second clip of the owner would be up tomorrow. Plumbing is a trade built on trust — you’re asking a stranger to open their front door to you. Video earns that trust faster than anything else you can put on a page, and it costs almost nothing to make.
After reviewing hundreds of local service accounts, every one of these is a basic thing any agency should catch in week one.
So Why Does This Keep Happening?
Here’s what gets me. None of these are advanced problems. There’s no sophisticated strategy failure here, no algorithm mystery. It’s a missing checklist. And when the basics get missed, it’s usually because of how the retainer model actually works: agencies collect monthly fees while junior staff juggle 80 accounts at a time, and nobody actually looks at your site.
If someone’s being paid to run this, they should have caught it. All of it. Whether you hire a home services marketing company or handle marketing yourself, this list is week-one work — not a month-six discovery buried in a quarterly report.
And if nobody is being paid to run it? Then the lesson is the same one Excellent Plumbing is learning the hard way: great work alone doesn’t fill the schedule. The marketing has to carry its weight too.
The Part Most Owners Don’t Know Yet
Here’s what most owners don’t know yet. With AI, these exact fixes can now run automatically. The tracking checks, the page builds, the monitoring that used to require an agency’s attention — the technology handles the routine work, and it doesn’t juggle 80 accounts or forget to look.
That changes the whole math. With a bit of guidance, you can take control, run your marketing in-house, and own the whole thing instead of depending on an agency. That’s exactly what we do at Local Service Mastery: coach service business owners to run their own Google Ads, local SEO, and Facebook Ads, with LSM AI doing the heavy lifting in the background.
