Ben Abbott & Associates Review: 6 Marketing Misses Behind a 4.8-Star Reputation

  • ✓4.8 stars, 4,600+ reviews — and Google can’t show a single one of them in search results
  • ✓No structured data, so Google is left guessing the hours, phone, and service area
  • ✓Zero pages built for service + city searches — nothing to rank where buyers actually look
  • ✓A buried H1, no homepage video, and a footer that still says 2019
  • ✓Six basic misses. Any paid agency should have caught all six.

4.8 stars across more than 4,600 reviews. That’s Ben Abbott and Associates in Garland, Texas — and you don’t earn a reputation like that by accident. So let’s be clear up front: this review is only about their online marketing. And right now, the marketing doesn’t come close to matching the reputation.

I went through their site the same way I’d go through yours. Six problems. Every one of them basic. Every one of them fixable. And every one of them the kind of thing that should never survive a single month of paid marketing management.

Maybe you don’t run a law firm. Doesn’t matter. If you’re a contractor writing a check to a home service marketing agency every month, these are the exact checks they should be running on your site — and there’s a good chance the same leaks are in yours right now.

The six findings at a glance

FindingWhat the audit foundWhy it matters
H1 heading is not the first heading on the pageA lower-level heading (H2/H3) appears in the HTML before the page's own H1 tag.Search engines weight heading order — burying the H1 under other headings weakens it as a ranking signal.
No video content on the homepageNo YouTube/Vimeo/Wistia embed found in the page source.Video builds trust fastest and keeps visitors on the page longer — a homepage with zero video is a missed, low-cost opportunity.
No LocalBusiness structured dataNo LocalBusiness schema in the page's JSON-LDStructured data is how Google reads your hours, service area, phone and rating. Without it Google guesses — and competitors who publish it get the rich result instead.
No service+city pagesNo internal links matching a service-in-city URL patternPeople search "emergency plumber in <city>", not "Ben Abbott & Associates". With one generic services page there's nothing for Google to rank against those searches, and paid clicks land somewhere too generic to convert.
Reviews shown but not marked up for GoogleReview content on the page with no aggregateRating/review schemaMarked-up reviews can show star ratings directly in search results, which lifts click-through on a listing you already rank for — free clicks you're currently leaving behind.
Site looks abandoned — copyright still says 2019Footer copyright reads 2019; current year is 2026It is the first thing a careful customer checks to see if you are still in business. A stale year quietly tells them the site — and maybe the company — is neglected.

Miss #1: Your reviews are invisible to Google

The site displays their reviews. Visitors can read them. But there’s no markup code behind them — and that code is what Google reads to show star ratings right inside the search results.

They earned the stars. Google just can’t see them.

After reviewing hundreds of local service accounts, I’d call this the most expensive small miss on the whole site. Here’s why it hurts: when someone searches and one listing has gold stars next to it and the one below it doesn’t, the stars win the click. Every time. It doesn’t matter that the starless listing has the better reputation — Google never got the memo, because nobody added the code that delivers it.

That’s the brutal part. The hard work is done. Decades of taking care of clients, thousands of happy people. The small technical step that makes all of that visible at the exact moment a stranger is deciding who to call? Never happened.

Miss #2: Google is guessing at your basic business info

Same story, different field. There’s no structured data spelling out their hours, their phone number, their service area. So Google is left guessing — and competitors who publish that information get the richer listing instead.

This is the stuff your customers actually search with. Hours. Phone. Where you work. When that data isn’t handed to Google in a format it can read, your listing shows up thin while the guy down the street shows up complete. Not because he’s better at the work. Because his site bothered to introduce itself.

Miss #3: Nothing to rank for the searches that actually matter

When someone in Garland needs help, they’re not typing a company name into their phone. They’re typing the service plus the city. That’s how every local buyer searches — hurt in a car accident, pipe burst, AC died, locked out. Service. City. Go.

This site has no pages built for those searches. So for most of them, there’s simply nothing to rank.

Understand the mechanics here, because this is where most owners get it wrong. Google ranks pages, not businesses. If no page exists for a search, you don’t exist for that search. It doesn’t matter how good your reviews are or how long you’ve been around. No page, no ranking, no call. Your competitor with a tenth of your reputation and one basic page targeting that exact search takes the job instead.

Miss #4: The main headline is buried

This one’s subtle, and it’s exactly the kind of thing a real audit catches. On the homepage, a lower-level heading shows up in the code before the page’s actual H1. Search engines read heading order as a ranking signal — the H1 is supposed to be the first headline, the one that tells Google what the page is about.

Quick fix. Still wrong. And it’s the kind of wrong that sits there for years, because nobody ever looks at the code.

Miss #5: No video on the homepage

This firm has more trust to work with than almost anyone — 4,600-plus people publicly vouching for them. And there’s no video anywhere on the homepage.

With that much trust to work with, I’d want one short video front and center, because nothing builds trust faster. A stranger deciding whether to call is really asking one question: are these people real? Thirty seconds of an actual human talking answers that better than any paragraph ever written.

Miss #6: The footer still says 2019

It’s 2026. The copyright line in the footer says 2019. Maybe nobody’s looked at that footer in years — but it quietly tells a visitor the site might be abandoned.

And this is the thing a careful customer notices first. In high-stakes services — legal, medical, a flooded house — customers are careful. They’re scanning for any excuse not to call, because calling feels like a commitment. A seven-year-old footer is an excuse. It takes five minutes to fix, and it’s been sitting there for years.

Six basic checks. Who’s catching them?

Every single one of these is a basic check. Not advanced strategy. Not some new algorithm trick. Basic. If someone’s being paid to run this marketing, they should have caught all six.

But here’s what actually happens across the industry: agencies collect monthly retainers while junior staff juggle 80 accounts, and nobody actually looks. The reports go out. The invoice gets paid. The footer still says 2019.

If you’re paying a home services marketing company right now, pull up your own site and run this list. Stars showing in search results? Structured data on your business info? A page for every service-plus-city you want to win? H1 first in the code? Video on the homepage? Current year in the footer? I’d bet at least two of the six are broken.

The part most owners don’t know yet

With AI, these exact fixes can now run automatically. Not someday. Now. The markup, the pages, the recurring checks — the stuff agencies charge a retainer to ignore — can be handled by systems that don’t get bored, don’t juggle 80 accounts, and don’t forget to look at your footer for seven years.

With a bit of guidance, you can bring your marketing in-house and own the whole thing. Never depend on an agency again. That’s the entire reason I built Local Service Mastery — so the person who cares most about your marketing, you, has the tools and the training to actually run it.

If you run a local service business and want to know what’s leaking in your marketing, grab the free audit below. We’ll find what’s broken — and show you exactly what it takes to fix it yourself.

If this sounds familiar…

You've been burned before.

🔒

They own your accounts. Not you.

The day you leave an agency, your Google Ads account, tracking numbers, and landing page are gone. You spent $30,000 building their asset.

💸

The reports look great. The phone doesn't ring.

Impressions. Clicks. CTR. Beautiful PDF every month. But when you ask how many jobs you closed — nobody has a straight answer.

🤷

You ask a question. You get an email 48 hours later.

You need answers now. A human account manager you can never reach isn't service — it's a subscription to uncertainty.

Good questions

Questions,
answered.

What is review schema markup, and why does it matter?

It’s the markup code behind the reviews displayed on your site — and it’s what Google reads to show star ratings right inside search results. Without it, you can have thousands of five-star reviews and none of them will ever appear in search. You earned the stars. Google just can’t see them.

What is structured data for a local business?

It’s code that spells out your basic business info — hours, phone number, service area — in a format Google can read. Without it, Google is left guessing, and competitors who publish that data get the richer listing instead.

Why do I need a page for each service and city?

Because that’s how people actually search. Nobody types a company name when they need help — they type the service plus the city. Google ranks pages, not businesses, so if you have no page built for that search, there’s simply nothing to rank. No page, no ranking, no call.

Does heading order on my website really affect rankings?

Yes. Search engines read heading order as a ranking signal, and your H1 — the page’s main headline — should come first. On the site in this review, a lower-level heading appeared in the code before the actual H1. It’s a quick fix, but it’s the kind of thing that stays wrong for years because nobody looks at the code.

Does the copyright year in my footer actually matter?

To a careful customer, absolutely. A footer that says 2019 in 2026 quietly tells a visitor your site might be abandoned — and in high-stakes services, customers are already looking for an excuse not to call. It takes five minutes to fix.

Can I really run my own marketing without an agency?

Yes — and this is the part most owners don’t know yet. With AI, fixes like the six in this breakdown can now run automatically. With a bit of guidance, you can bring your marketing in-house, own the whole thing, and never depend on an agency again.

Which plan should I pick?

Start with Starter if you want to get your phone ringing in one city and grow from there — one new campaign gets added each month. Go with Growth if you're ready to cover your full service area right away. Pro adds local SEO, Facebook Ads, and weekly coaching with me directly. If you're still not sure, run the free audit — it'll tell you what to expect in your market.

How fast will my ads go live?

Most clients are live within 48 hours of completing setup. Your LSM AI builds everything, you review and approve, then it goes live. The only exception is if Google requires advanced verification for your category (locksmith, garage door) — that's a direct process between you and Google, and we walk you through it.

What results can I expect?

Depends on your trade, your city, and your ad budget. The free audit gives you a real estimate pulled directly from Google's own Ads data — not a made-up projection. In a medium-to-large market with a $1,000/month ad budget, most clients get 15–40 qualified calls per month. Run the audit first to see what's realistic in your specific area.

Do I really own everything?

Yes. The Google Ads account, the call tracking numbers, the landing page — all built inside your accounts, in your name. If you ever cancel, you walk away with everything you paid to build. That's not a policy. That's the whole point.

Is there a contract?

No contract, ever. Every plan is month-to-month. Cancel anytime — if we stop earning your business, you should stop paying.

What if I already have my own call tracking or fraud protection?

No problem. You can connect your existing accounts, or we set everything up fresh for you. Your call — you pick during onboarding.

I'm a locksmith or garage door company. Anything I should know?

Yes — Google requires advanced verification for locksmith and garage door services before ads can run. We build your campaign and all your keywords, but you'll need to complete that verification with Google directly (we walk you through it). If for any reason you can't complete it, you're covered by our full 7-day refund.

Do you work with my trade?

We specialize in home and local services — HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, locksmith, garage door, pest control, carpet cleaning, water damage, tree service, and more. Run the free audit and you'll instantly see if we're a fit.

What exactly is my LSM AI account manager?

It's your personal AI marketing manager — trained on 8,600+ real LSM coaching sessions. Sign up and it's ready to go: builds your full campaign setup inside your accounts, reviews everything with you before anything goes live, and stays on 24/7 to answer any question about your campaigns, leads, or marketing strategy. In Lior's exact voice.

What's the 7-day money-back guarantee?

If you sign up and decide within 7 days that this isn't right for you — for any reason — you get a full refund. No hoops. We'd rather lose a bad fit early than keep a client who isn't seeing value.

The bottom line

A 4.8-Star Reputation Deserves Better Marketing

Ben Abbott and Associates did the hard part. More than 4,600 reviews at 4.8 stars is a reputation most local businesses will never touch. But reputation alone doesn’t mark up reviews, doesn’t build service-plus-city pages, doesn’t update footers — and right now, none of that invisible technical work is getting done.

Six misses. All basic. All the kind of thing a paid agency should have caught in month one. Instead, they’re the industry norm: retainers collected, junior staff juggling 80 accounts, nobody actually looking.

Here’s what Local Service Mastery would do: run the audit, fix all six, then put systems in place — powered by AI, guided by real training — so these checks run automatically and the marketing stays in your hands, where it belongs. You already care more about your business than any account manager ever will. Time to own it.
